Today is the day of celebrating culture. Despite the increase in the use of technology, the truth is that young people read more and more -especially of them -and bet on doing so in the most traditional format: paper books, far from screens and ebooks. So, Today April 23, Book Day is celebrated, a tradition that has been maintained since 1926.
On the occasion of this celebration, each autonomous community develops different activities to continue promoting the increase in reading, especially destined for the youngest. In Madrid, the Blanquerna Cultural-Cultural Center opens its doors from 10 in the morning until 9 at night. Why April 23
The date of the Book Day is not accidental. It is easy to ask why it was chosen on April 23 and not another, and The reason lies in the death of two of the most important writers in history: Miguel de Cervantes and William Shakespeare. Similarly, there is also controversy, because in recent years there are those that say that Cervantes really died on April 22.
Despite being the most prominent figures and the main reason to place the celebration on this date, there are also other personalities who died on this same date and that is worth commemorating. Among them are Maurice Druon, Haldor K.laxness and Vladimir Nabokovalthough the list continues. In this way, and after the proposal of the International Editors Union, UNESCO approved to celebrate this day in 1995.
Sant Jordi Book Day and Legend
The celebration of the Book Day coincides with the tradition of Sant Jordi’s dayone of the most outstanding festivities in Catalonia. Every April 22, the community celebrates the day of its employer, a figure present since the fifteenth century. In addition, it is important to talk about the accompanying legend.
