The 47th Fair of the Old Book and occasion in Madrid, The largest background library in the center of the capitaland one of the oldest of this type in Spain, returns to the Paseo de Recoletos, from May 1 to 18, with thousands of copies. Admission is free.
Organized since 1977 by the Lance of Lance Association of Madrid, it will have the participation of a total of 37 specialized bookstores (24 are from Madrid, 5 of Barcelona, 1 of Seville, 1 of Pamplona, 1 of Granada, 1 of Salamanca, 1 of Segovia, 1 of Zaragoza, 1 of Huesca and 1 of Valencia) that will put to the sale thousands of copies, whose prices range from € 1 of the cheapest editions, to the thousands of euros of authentic bibliographic jewelsas first editions, incunable, rare specimens and original manuscripts.
María José Blas Ruiz, president of the Lance of Lance Association of Madrid, explains that “we have the privilege of having the visit of thousands of people arriving from all corners, which have made us the most important fair that is held in Spain within its specialty, both by sales volume, as for variety and quality of the copies that are offered”.
In addition to second -hand and discontinued books, the public who visits the fair will also have the opportunity to acquire an important selection of old volumes, first signed editions, incunable, original manuscripts, engravings, maps, rare editions, newspapers and magazines, comics, paper collecting, occasion books, etc. Even here there is a place for the edition remains, popularly known as balance books, at very economical prices.
“The important volume of specimens that are sold, the attractiveness of the Recoletos promenade, and the visit of well -known writers, bibliophiles, researchers, and other fans and curious, make us an unbeatable occasion to enjoy and delight for 18 days of the best and largest background bookstore in the center of Madrid,” says the president.
The 47th Fair of the Old Book and occasion of Madrid will officially open on Saturday, May 3, at 12:30 pm, with the public reading of the traditional proclamation, which this year will be in charge of the poet and novelist Benjamín Prado, winner of different literary awards among which we can highlight the hyperion; the International Poetry award of Melilla; the Andalusian novel award; the generation of 27; and the pop Eye prize.
