More than 600 people have endorsed the cultural activities carried out by the Government of the Diputación de Toledo to commemorate the Book daywhich have been developed in the Provincial Palace and have covered since the sale of books from the Editorial Fund of the Institution at reduced prices to theatricalizations of the Universe of Cervantes and Don Quijote de la Mancha, through musical performances, live radio programs or exhibitions and reading of Cervantine texts in charge of students.
If last year the activities for the first time for the first time in the history of the Diputación were extended, this year that time has been reduced to only 9 days due to the coincidence of Holy Week and the celebration of May 1. Even so, we must talk about the excellent impact and popular acceptance of the proposals made, which have had the large assistance of the general public.
The counters arranged in the Zaguán of the Provincial Palace for the Sale of Books of the Editorial Fund From the Diputación, numerous interested in acquiring titles at reduced prices has received a total of 319 copies.
Among them, the most requested has been the book ‘Copper and Pasadicos’, followed by the child publication ‘Tula and Tula: the kingdom of heaven’.
As best -selling books in third position, ‘Alfonso X and the Corpus de Toledo’ and ‘Artifice of Juanelo’ have been placed, to be placed as the fourth best -selling book ‘The popular embroidery Toledo’.
All the books offered have been published by the Diputación or in co -edition with other entities, from its bibliographic fund, with prices that have oscillated between one euro, the cheapest, and 30 euros the most expensive, thus facilitating the acquisition of them, with discounts that have oscillated between 40% and 70%.
Between April 22 and 30 they have been able to visit Two exhibitions Shown in the entrance hall to the Provincial Palace: an interesting painting exhibition entitled ‘Landscapes and Gardens of the Taj’, thanks to the assignment of works by Carlos Pérez-Hercle, with a collection of paintings from the landscapes of the gardens of the riverbank of the Tajo as it passes through Aranjuez; and an exhibition of facsimiles of Cervantes writings, thanks to the collaboration of the Provincial Archive.
The Theater has held an outstanding place in this program, by the Athena Theater Group, Mora, led by Olga Sánchez-Dehesa, which has offered four theatricalizations about the universe of Miguel de Cervantes and El Quijote, and a dramatized theatization in the presentation of the novel ‘El Beso’, by Jesús Gallardo.
The other book presented has been the ‘Guide of the province of Toledo: places to remember’, adapted to easy reading, in collaboration with full inclusion.
Also the schoolchildren in the province have participated in the bulk of the activities, since a total of 15 schoolchildren of 3rd and 4th of the ESO read the same day 23 fragments of the ‘exemplary novels’ by Miguel de Cervantes, in an adapted reading of the exemplary novel ‘The strength of the blood’, having chosen that text to bring the work of Cervantes to young readers for the entertain Toledo
The radio also wanted to take part and that is why on April 23 it was also broadcast live, from the Plenary Hall of the Diputación, the program ‘More than one Toledo’, led by Javier Escudero.
Music has been another of the pillars of these days, as two performances have been offered: that of the art strapes music, by Pura Murillo, the cello and Celia Torres, to the saxophone; and the recital of classical music and soundtracks by Samuel Gómez Tavira and Luis María Guzmán (piano and cello).
The concert planned for April 28 by the round trip duo, formed by Ariel Acevedo and Roberto Durán, of Spanish and Latin American folklore represented by the classic guitar, had to be suspended by the fall of the electricity grid, as well as the presentation of the book Luis Tristán, excellent stories painter of Luis Alberto Pérez Velarde.
The Government of the Diputación, therefore, closes this new edition of the Book Day with a very positive balance, thanking the collaboration of all the people who have already made possible those who have wanted to join this proposal to bring books closer to people and transfer citizens of all ages to the fact that reading them, art and culture enriches us as people and makes us freer.
