UNED Dénia has demonstrated that culture and solidarity can go hand in hand. The XIII edition of the campaign «1 Book X 1 kilo», held on Tuesday at the entrance of the university Center, has exceeded all expectations in the collection of food and hygiene products for people in vulnerability of the region.
For ten uninterrupted hours, dozens of people approached the collection point to participate in this symbolic exchange: donate basic products in exchange for books. A simple formula that has consolidated this campaign as one of the most relevant solidarity appointments of the local calendar.
The initiative, promoted by the associated center of the UNED in Dénia, has had the collaboration of Interparrochial Cáritas, Red Cross, Salvation Army and the NGO extends your hand, which will be responsible for distributing the products among the families that need it most.
In addition, about twenty voluntary people – among students, teachers and citizenship – actively participated in the organization and attention of the event, underlining the community character of the project.
From the direction of the center they value the impact of this edition very positively and highlight the growing commitment of citizens: “These types of initiatives not only encourage reading, but also reinforce social cohesion and the solidarity spirit that we need so much,” said the director of the UNED Dénia, Raquel Martí.
The campaign «1 book X 1 kilo» is consolidated as well as an example of university social responsibility, aligned with the sustainable development objectives, and as a reference in the Marina Alta in the impulse of cultural actions with real impact.
