Harold Trompetero He has dyslexia since the age of 12. He says that literature has helped him deal with that. Along with directing movies, this Bogota has written several books; However, ‘Lastar’, the most recent, marks a turning point in his days as a writer.
“I feel that until now everyone had been rehearsals, I think that with this book I found a voice finally. My dyslexico status forced me to be very concrete and very specific, to do the opposite of what the rules of creative writing in literature say, which speaks of describing very general, instead of telling. But I set out to tell and I am happy because people have connected and tell me: ‘I read and it He is counting, ”Harold says in a talk over time. “It’s like a movie to read, right?”
‘Lastar’ is the story of Victoria, a wealthy woman who has an empty life, despite her luxuries. To feel alive, every week, hidden from her authoritarian husband and her distant children, sell minutes on the street, take care of babies and clean the apartment of a young executive. It is an adventure that reconnects it with the emotion of being more than an ornament, until you are pregnant with a boy who is her confidant. The scandal, the clerk, the indecision, but above all, the danger of being a mother at age 68. This story is a tragicomic trip to the complex female psyche, while raising a resignification of old age, the courage to challenge social norms and the importance of living an authentic life.
Trompetero, remembered by the address of films violet of one thousand colors, alone, riverside, dog, the walk, and the Patasola, will present ‘Lastar’ at the Bogotá Book Fair (Filbo) on Sunday, May 11, at 2 pm, In the stand of the Editorial Planeta, where you will have a book firm.
“Of the things that surprised me the most is how a guy like me could get into a female head in such a deep and so happy way, to the point that the readers have told me that this seems as if a guy were reading their thoughts. The truth, I have always had a very developed female side. I also did a very long research process, intense, 15 years of work, like 30 versions of writing, and when I realized what I wanted to help me a lot. Lady who already died, was called Alicia Ortega, very advanced, poet and philosopher, who gave me guides how I would think of such a situation, because it is an experiential writing work, listening to a person who could have that spirit, ”says the author.

So, Victoria does exist in real life?
In part. The story arises from a person who made the trade in my house and was called Victoria. She was a wealthy class lady, with a good pension, I never understood why the trade made me. One day I asked. ‘When I come and do these things, as I live again,’ he replied. The idea was around my head, I added that I was also a late father, at 46. From those elements, I began to investigate, and I said: ‘Why if Kafka could put someone aroused into beetle, why can’t I get pregnant a woman at 68?’
And there are real cases.
There have been cases of natural pregnancy, and with in vitro methods of women between 68 and 72 years. I knew about one in the United States, from a lady who was died of the son, and with his sperm he got pregnant: she was her granddaughter’s mother.
Would you say ‘Lastar’ is a metaphor?
It is a poetic license. When one reads books, he realizes that breastfeeding is a metaphor and being a mother is also a metaphor of life itself. Another thing that fed me a lot to write this story, is that many women in my generation had refused to be mothers and after 45 years like they regretted. Sometimes I think it is not only femininity, but a need to stay, that latency of reproducing. I feel that history is a claim of that position of women, also of their position against issues such as abortion, homosexualism, racism, class struggle, is a perspective on the female side, not only of women, but of that femininity that men have too.

‘Lasting’ will be a movie one day?
Yes. But I don’t think that in a classical cinematographic language because it is very worn. There is now a web format that are novels of a chapter, in vertical format, and last an hour and a half: that is what I would like to do with victory. The audiovisual language must be evolved.
Are more books come?
I already have the following novels, one will be to give birth, and the other die. They are about how life is there, in people, in what we are. And they will be in a language of breastfeeding, fragmented, fast reading, trying to move that language of Tiktok or Instagram, not in a gross way but very stylized, to literature.
Harold Trompetero will be talking and signing his book ‘Lastar’, on Sunday, May 11, from 2 to 3 in the afternoon, at the Planet Stand of the Bogotá Book Fair, in Corferias.
