The Chinese Embassy donated 300 books to Bibroed in Filbo 2025, strengthening cultural cooperation with Bogotá

In a protocol event held on Tuesday, May 6 at the Virgilio Barco Public Library, The Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Colombia delivered a significant donation of 300 books and audiovisual materials to the District Network of Public Libraries of Bogotá (Biblired), within the framework of the Bogotá International Book Fair (Filbo) 2025.

The donation includes a diverse selection of works that cover From classical Chinese literature to artistic and cultural manifestations essential to understand the richness of Chinese tradition.

With this, Bibroed users can access books about mythology, popular poetry of Han dynasties, calligraphy, painting, Sculpture, theater and artisanal traditions, offering an integral vision of China’s artistic and cultural legacy.

Among the titles are studies on popular poetry, which reflect the life and customs of the Chinese people in key historical times, as well as texts dedicated to calligraphy, considered in China not only as a writing but as a deep aesthetic expression.

In fact, this collection will allow Bogota readers to explore new literary and cultural perspectives, Enriching the Biblored collection with content that promotes understanding and cultural diversity.

In addition, the event was attended by prominent figures in the academic and literary field, among them the Chinese academic He Jiahong, recognized for his contributions in jurisprudence, human rights and black novel; the criminologist Orlando Patiño Meza; the Colombian writer Esteban emphapié, a specialist in police novels; and Juan Alberto Conde, Professor of Literary Studies and Edition of the University Jorge Tadeo Lozano. His presence stressed the importance of cultural and academic exchange that this donation represents.

For his part, Santiago Trujillo Escobar, Secretary of Culture, Recreation and Sports of Bogotá, highlighted the symbolic and practical value of the donation: “A donation is an act of generosity, conviction, cooperation and brotherhood. Today we celebrate that the China Embassy in Colombia has this gesture with one of the most robust library networks in southern America. This exchange enhances the circulation of cultures and is an opportunity to meet us as peoples and societies. China’s literary wealth arrives at our network with 150 reading and writing spaces in knowing all the Chinese culture.

For its part, Zhu Jingyang, Chinese Ambassador to Colombia, said that the donation of 210 books and audiovisual materials on culture, art, science and technology It will contribute to the inhabitants of Bogotá to know China better and their development in various fields, thus strengthening cultural and educational ties between the two countries.

Bibroed is the most important public public libraries in Latin America, with 150 reading spaces distributed in Bogotá. This network integrates physical libraries, the Bogotá Digital Library, and mobile and community strategies, promoting democratic access to knowledge.

Its innovative approach promotes reading as a tool for social transformation, encourages citizen participation, local memory and critical thinking, consolidating as a reference in written and oral inclusion and culture.

Thanks to this alliance with the China Embassy, ​​Biblored expands its cultural offer with collections that enrich the experience of its users and strengthen cultural exchange between Bogotá and the Asian giant. Donated materials will be available mainly in the Virgilio Barco Public Library, one of the most emblematic spaces of the network, and may be consulted throughout the Bogota community.
