Brazil: Voepass declares bankruptcy and blames of its financial problems

The Brazilian private airline Voepass requested the protection for bankruptcy at the minuteaccording to judicial documents, citing the actions of Latam Airlines, based in Chile, as one of the main reasons of your financial crisis.

Voepass, which claims a total debt of about US $ 36.7 million, has been facing difficulties since one of its airplanes crashed near São Paulo in August 2024, killing the 62 people on board.

In documents seen by Reuters, the regional airline -which has a code agreement shared with Latam- accused the company of exercising a significant influence on their commercial relationship and not fulfilling their financial obligations.

Latam declined to comment.

According to the documents presented by VOEPASS, Latam suspended the operations of four VOEPASS AIR airplanes Used for the Shared Code Agreement and retained payments after the 2024 .

“Although this dispute has already been subject to arbitration, the fact is that Latam has always exercised a huge administrative interference in the management of Voepass business,” said the airline in the judicial presentation.

Voepass had previously underwent bankruptcy procedures between 2012 and 2017, which he restructured his operations and finance.

The airline’s operations were suspended in March For the Brazilian Aviation Regulator Anac, who cited security concerns. Voepass said in a statement that he was focused on resuming them as soon as possible.
