Artificial intelligence (AI) is no longer an emerging technology, but an integral force of companies that is transforming the functioning of all industries, redefining the work environment and influencing everyday life at an unprecedented rate. This according to the study “Trust, attitudes and use of AI” de KPMG, Professional Audit, Tax and Advice Services Company.
The report reveals that, although AI raises significant risks that must be managed with opportunity and diligence, 91 % of people surveyed in Mexico expect AI to offer a series of benefits, and 79 % have already experienced positive impacts directly.
For example, 88 % say that AI has allowed them to reduce the time dedicated to routine or repetitive tasks, which has helped expedite processes and improve efficiency; However, 55 % report having experienced loss of interaction and human connection as a result of its use.
In this context, the KPMG study highlights both the benefits and challenges by incorporating this technology, mainly related to trust, attitudes around its deployment and best practices for responsible use, since currently governance and regulations in the field are not up to the speed of its implementation, which generates a complex risk environment worldwide.
“Various companies are rapidly implementing, without carefully considering the structures required to guarantee transparency, responsibility and ethical supervision, which are fundamental aspects to generate trust,” says Félix Moreno, director of Digital Lighthouse of KPMG Mexico.
One of the main findings of the report is related to talent training. In our country, 63 % of those who responded to the survey believe they have the skills and knowledge necessary to use AI properly, while 46 % have received some type of formal or informal training in the field, and 75 % think they can use this type of tools efficiently.
On the other hand, in the work environment, 76 % indicate that their company employ; In fact, 80 % of people use AI intentionally to perform their activities at work, which, in addition to bringing advantages, can lead to potential risks. For example, 42 % indicate that most of the time could not complete their work without the help of AI, and 47 % prefer to rely on this technology to perform a task instead of learning how to do it; In this sense, 59 % fear lagged, if they do not incorporate it into their work.
In addition to the above, 55 % acknowledge having used inappropriate in the work environment, and 53 % have made mistakes due to its use, while 44 % have used it from forms that contravene the company’s policies. Also, 68 % trust the results provided without evaluating their precision, and 53 % present the content thrown by the tools as their own.
Finally, in privacy, 32 % say that the use of AI has increased compliance risks in their organization, while 51 % consider that this technology can perform key aspects of their work.
“It is important to note that, despite the fact that more than half of the surveyed people report greater efficiency, quality and innovation in their work thanks to the use of AI in their companies, and that a similar proportion expresses having observed growth in activities that generate income, three out of ten perceive an increase in pressure and stress, as well as in the workload,” concludes Gustavo Gómez, a leader of the artificial intelligence partner of KPMG Mexico.
The study “Trust, attitudes and use of AI” He gathered the opinions of more than 48 thousand people in 47 countries and jurisdictions to evaluate their attitudes towards literacy, governance and use of AI in the workplace. Mexico’s findings are based on a survey applied to 1,069 participants.
