The Fencing European Championship starred in a controversial protest against the Israel team in Tallin, Estonia, Saturday night.
The members of the SUIZA SUB-23 Fencing team, winner of the silver medal, turned their backs on Israeli gold medalists during the medal delivery ceremony while the Israel national anthem sounded.
Israel defeated Switzerland 45-34 to win gold.

After the incident, the Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gideon Sa’ar, condemned Switzerland for the protest.
Fencing Israel team has faced previous protests of opponents in recent years.

The FIFA Disciplinary Commission was asked to examine the accusations of discrimination against the Israel team, and even had to consider a suspension after the Palestinian football Federation, the PFA. Specifically, the PFA accused the Israeli Federation IFA to be an accomplice of violations of international law by the Israeli government, to discriminate against Arab players and include clubs located in Palestinian territory.
The FIFA did not suspend Israel, and the Ifa later lashed out at the PFA for the accusations in a statement provided to Fox News Digital.
“Who has fantasized about the suspension of Israeli football from the international scene or with sanctions through lies and false accusations has suffered a defeat,” says the statement. “Once again, we have acted over time in different channels, in a calculated and proactive way in the face of the challenge of the Palestine Association and its leader to distort reality, and today’s result leaves no doubt.
“We respect the authors of the report presented to the members of the Council and the decision of the members of the Council to consider the transfer of two issues to a legal examination, provided that there is some justification of fact for it. Thanks to the values that represent a glorious democracy and an independent and determined legal system of the Football Association, we have never violated or violate any of the rules of FIFA/UEFA.”
