The president of the United States Donald Trump relieved on Thursday (01.05.2025) to Mike Waltz, weakened by the Signalgate scandal, as national security advisor and replaced him interimly by the head of the Marco Rubio diplomacy, which is reinforced by the first cabinet adjustment.
Waltz was in the target since in March he added by mistake to the editor -in -chief of the Atlantic magazine to a chat of the signal messaging application about attacks against the hutis rebels in Yemen.
The Secretary of Defense, Pete Heghseth, Vice President JD Vance, the Chiefs of Intelligence and the CIA and the Rubio himself participated in the Chat.
Waltz publicly assumed his responsibility. Trump supported him when he then described as “witch hunt” the calls to his resignation. Now he doesn’t separate from him either.
Earlier, local media reported that Waltz had presented his resignation to office, after the scandal in which a journalist was accidentally included in a conversation about air attacks on Yemen.
Will be ambassador to the UN
“I am pleased to announce that I will name Mike Waltz as the next United States ambassador to the United Nations,” Trump wrote in his social truth network without specifying the reasons.
“Mike Waltz has worked hard to prioritize the interests of our nation. I know he will do the same in his new position,” pending approval of the Senate, he said.
Speaking to Fox News, Vice President Vance denied that the relay is linked to Signalgate. It is “an ascent” after having reformed the National Security Council in depth, he argued.
In the social network X, Mike Waltz said he felt “deeply honest” with the nomination.
Marco Rubio wins points
In the United States, the White House National Security Advisor plays an important role in the definition of foreign policy, together with the Secretary of State.
Marco Rubio will act as an “interim” National Security “advisor maintaining his firm leadership in the State Department. Together, we will continue to fight tirelessly so that the United States and the world will be safe again,” wrote the Republican in Truth Social.
President Trump seems delighted with Rubio, a son of Cuban immigrants born in Miami.
“Rubio, incredible (…) When I have a problem, I call it. He solves it,” he said of him this Thursday morning during an act at the White House to commemorate the National Day of Prayer.
