Washington (EFE) .- The administration of the president of the United States, Donald Trump, presented his budget proposal for 2026, the first of his second term, which contemplates a 22.6 % cut in the expense not related to defense.
The plan, released by the White House, also includes a 13 % increase in the budget of the Defense Department, which would amount to 1.01 billion dollars.
Although the document establishes the priorities of the Executive, it corresponds to the Congress to write and approve the Budget Law for the next fiscal year.
In a letter addressed to the Senate, the director of the Office of Administration and Budget, Russell Vought, offered some details of the plan, whose complete content will be released later.
The proposal includes a cut of 163,000 million dollars in non -defensive spending, equivalent to 22.6 %, with reductions of about 18,000 million for national health institutes and almost 25,000 million for the housing department.
These cuts respond to the austerity policy promoted by Magnate Elon Musk, whom Trump designated as head of the newly created government efficiency department.

Vought also pointed out that the plan foresees a “historical investment” of 175,000 million dollars for the Department of National Security (DHS), aimed at strengthening border control.
The tables presented do not yet include deficit objectives or income projections, which will be disclosed later.
Trump has promised a drastic reduction of taxes and ensures that he will compensate for the fall in public income with the increase in tariff collection, within the framework of the commercial war undertaken with several countries.
In recent years, federal budgets have been around 7 billion dollars per year, while public debt has climbed until around 36 billion.
Congress has the responsibility of approving the federal budget, although political differences usually delay the process and frequently force budget extensions to avoid the closure of the government.
