Fruits and vegetables rose 30% in 5 months and high prices persist – last minute

The inflation report of the Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP) reveals that between December 2024 and May 2025 the of fruits and vegetables increased by an average of 30%.

The product that showed the greatest volatility in recent months is tomato due to shortage in local production and high costs in neighboring countries. This vegetable, also of production, had a rise of up to 233% between December year and last May 2.

Of costing G. 55,000 the box passed to G. 183,500, which represents an increase of G. 128,500, around G. 6,500 of increase per kilo.

The BCP inflation report details that it is precisely the item that suffered the greatest increase in April, 20.6%increased.

Then, the pepper or locote green also in the last five months, with an accumulated increase of 184%, going from G. 3,700 to G. 10,500 per kilo. However, in the last month, it was one of the items that presented decreases, reaching -25.4% fall.

The pumpkin of national origin showed an increase of up to 135% between December 2024 and the present, going from G. 56,700 per bag to G. 133,500.

Other important increases were given in the Red Locote, which almost doubled its , since it went from G. 125,000 to G. 230,000 per box, while the leek increased in G. 5,000, going from G. 15,000 to G. 20,000 per dozen, a 33% variation.

They also uploaded the cabbage, going from G. 43,500 to G. 86,700 the bag; La Rúcula, from G. 6,500 the dozen to G. 10,700 and the celery, which from G. 8,700 the dozen rose to G. 13,000.

A different trend was recorded in the lemon segment. The Japanese, for example, drastically fell from G. 113,500 to G. 31,700 in these 5 months, a fall of more than 70%, while the Tahiti lemon fell to G. 50,000, after having cost G. 110,000.

In the other products, the increases were more moderate, such as the rice that remained stable in G. 7,000 per kilo, the white corn that lowered only G. 500, and the Park Paky, which lowered G. 1,500, offering a slight relief to the costs for families.
