The first versions suggest that the author of the crime would be a man of Haitian nationality, nicknamed “Nito”, with whom Acosta would have sustained a dispute related to a supposed debt of two thousand pesos by the application of herbicide on a property. The version has also circulated that the suspect was seen selling a horn that allegedly would have stolen from the victim’s home, which could have intensified the confrontation.
So far, the authorities have not offered an official version, but confirmed that they are investigating the fact. This murder elevates six the number of violent deaths recorded in recent times in Estero Hondo, a community that in recent years has been the scene of other similar events, both with Haitian and Dominican citizens involved.
The community demands justice and greater presence of the authorities to prevent the escalation of violence that affects the tranquility of the area.
