Cuba and Russia took another step to their beneficial cooperation by signing a joint statement on the forms and means to counteract the effects of external sanctions, of which they are subject.

Indeed, the Foreign Ministry Serguei Lavrov and Bruno Rodríguez signed the document aimed at mitigating and compensating the consequences of unilateral coercive provisions, of which Moscow and Havana have enough experience for being the target of them.

The avenencia was signed days before the visit to Russia of the Cuban President, Miguel Díaz-Canel, to participate in the acts for the 80th anniversary of the against fascism in the Great Homeland .

Likewise, the coincidence of objectives is part of a key period, since on May 8, 65 years of the restoration of diplomatic relations will be completed.

Both countries suffer the rigors of unilateral sanctions and in the case of the Caribbean nation with a long career of more than six decades.

The reinstatement of the Caribbean archipelago to the list of countries that, according to the optics of the Tenants of the White House, sponsor terrorism, contributes to close the doors of banks and organisms.

With the assumption of Donald Trump for his term and the irrational pressure of the Anticuban led by Marco Rubio, the unilateral sanctions against the neighboring country were renewed.

While this occurs in relation to Cuba, Russia struggles to get ahead in the middle of a wave of sanctions, exercised with the argument of the conflict with Ukraine.

The United States imposed more than seven thousand sanctions since the late 2022, although the total number of them, including those stalered by the European Union, lead that figure to almost 29 thousand.

In the opinion of President Vladimir Putin, the cluster of these punishments is significantly greater than all those exercised against other countries.

As sovereign states, Cuba and Russia have the right to seek the harmonization of potentialities and initiatives to face and compensate for unilateral coercive practices, aimed at suffocating their economies and societies.
