Chico Nacori, Son. The fall of Aguanieve in the Sierra de Nácori Chico surprised on Monday the more than 70 brigades that fight a forest fire in this area of the Sonoran East, where the incident has devastated with hundreds of hectares of vegetation.
“This afternoon, the fall of Aguanieve is reported in the area affected by the forest fire, in the municipality of Nacori Chico. It is expected that later, technical staff of the National Forestry Commission (Conafor), report the progress made today in the control and liquidation of the fire,” reported the state Civil Protection Coordination.
The climate phenomenon generated more favorable conditions for control work, which until the last official cut reached 50 percent of fire containment and 40 percent liquidation, according to preliminary reports of the National Forest Commission (CONAFOR).
76 Brigadistas of various corporations participate in the operation: Conafor, the Ministry of National Defense (Sedena), the State Brigade of Fire Management of Sagarhpa and Sonora Civil Protection, as well as personnel of the State Coordination of Civil Protection and Volunteer Groups.
Despite the unexpected humidity, the teams continue to face active spotlights, mainly in the northeast and southwest areas of the affected perimeter. The steep terrain and wind bursts have complicated tasks, although important advances are reported after several days of continuous effort.
In addition to the fire in Nacori Chico, the authorities monitor claims in other regions of the State. In Bavispe, the fire has been contained at 90 percent and 75 percent settlement is reported. Meanwhile, in Yécora, where two active fires are registered on the El Llano and Mesa Grande properties, the progress is slower, with 30 percent control and liquidation of between 15 and 20 percent, respectively.
CONAFOR and the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas (Conanp) continue to coordinate strategies to stop the propagation of fire and avoid new outbreaks, in a critical season for state forest ecosystems.
