Tegucigalpa- On the road that leads to Santa Lucia, every day an average of three road accidents occur, both due to the imprudence of drivers, and by other factors that prevent good circulation.
Given this concern, more than 150 families living in the area, asked the mayor of Santa Lucía Julio Avilez and the Director of Road and Transportation, José Adonay Hernández, an urgent technical intervention to evaluate and improve the circulation, orderly, fast and responsible in that route.
The neighbors also ask for signaling the road in a visible and adequate way, disseminating an awareness campaign on the Traffic, Control and Regulation of the parking on the margins of the road, immediate withdrawal of abandoned or parked vehicles incorrectly and apply to the offenders the sanctions established by law.
Among the most frequent problems that are identified in that area are, among others, the lack of preventive and speed signage, the frequent presence of vehicles in the opposite direction, collisions for passing without precaution, speeding and distraction and abandoned vehicles and vested venturedly on the road which hinders traffic and reduces visibility.
-They also indicate the constant circulation of water tanks and heavy vehicles loaded with construction materials, businesses without adequate parking, increased motorcyclist traffic without safety measures, high speed and ignorance of road circulation limits in that type of transport.
They recognize that road safety does not depend only on the authorities, but also on citizen education and responsibility but highlight, the role that the authorities must assume to guarantee minimal conditions of security in public roads.
The note delivered by the lawyer Enma Murillo on behalf of the Santalucenses, appeals to the sensitivity and institutional commitment so that the Santa Lucía road does not remain a high -risk area where the lives are endangered every day, not only of those who live there, but also, of those who visit that tourist area.
“Every action that is taken in time can mean the difference between the life and death of a driver, a motorcyclist, a pedestrian or even a child,” they emphasize in his note.
