Nairobi, May 7 (EFE) .- Kenyan police have arrested six people suspected of murdering the deputy of the Kenyan National Assembly (lower house of the Parliament) Charles Ond’ondo Were on April 30 in Nairobi, the National Police Service (NPS) said Wednesday.
Four of the suspects were arrested on Monday, to which two others were added, detailed the NPS in a statement released on social network X.
During a record in the house of one of the detainees, the agents recovered firearms that will be subjected to a ballistic analysis to determine their property and possible involvement in the crime.
They also seized a bag and shoes that coincide with those that allegedly wore one of the suspects on the day of the murder.
“Two guns, a retay Falcon and a Sarsilmaz were recovered. In addition, nine 9 mm caliber ammunition cartridges were found. A bag and footwear also recovered that coincided with the description of those carried by one of the suspects in the place of the incident,” the NPS said.
The researchers suspect that the murder of Were could have been orchestrated by an organized crime network with access to important financial resources.
In fact, according to local media, 615,000 Kenyan Chelines (about 4,200 euros) were found in the house of one of those arrested Monday, which could correspond to the payment for the crime.
Police investigate the origin of money and the possible mobile of the murder.
Were, 51, was shot around 7:30 p.m. local time (16:30 GMT) on April 30 when the vehicle in which he was traveling stopped at a red traffic light on the Nong Road road, near the roundabout of the city’s morgue, just over three kilometers from the center of the Kenyan capital.
According to the NPS, face -to -face witnesses reported that a motorcycle with two occupants approached the car, and that the passenger descended, shot at the deputy and fled “at full speed” in the same vehicle.
The car driver and a second passenger, both unharmed, transferred the deputy to the nearby Nairobi Hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.
Police considered from the beginning that the murder seemed “intentional and premeditated.”
The murder of Were, deputy of the opponent Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) for the Kasipul (west) constituency caused a great shock in the political class of this country of Eastern Africa.
