According to Natural Gas Expro quotes, on April 29, gas prices in Ukraine were approximately 31.8 euros/MWh, while Spot prices in the Dutch TTF were 31.5 euros/MWh. Therefore, for the first time since May 1, 2024, natural gas prices in Ukraine exceeded European prices, with a differential of 0.3 euros.
This situation occurred due to the decrease in natural gas prices in Europe during the last week due to the warm climate and the stability of the supply. Meanwhile, in Ukraine, gas prices have increased thanks to the constant demand, in particular of the state -owned company Naftagaz and the GTS operator of Ukraine. In addition, supply volumes have decreased since Ukrnafta stopped selling gas in the market after the Council of Ministers ordered its sale to Naftagaz as part of the public service obligations (OSP).
However, the current differential between gas prices in Europe and Ukraine is too narrow to resume commercial imports of natural gas to Ukraine by private companies, since it does not cover shipping costs. However, if this trend continues, merchants could begin to import gas to resell it in the Ukrainian market.
