The Aqua Tours company has to present documents to the authorities, to determine if the collapse of a dock in the hotel zone of Cancun, which occurred last Thursday night, It was an accident or negligence.
Antonio Riveroll Ribbon, director of Civil Protection of Benito Juárez, said that after the incident an inspection certificate was left in which they must present their documents that prove the maintenance and their protocols of action:
“The dock is suspended for repair and have an inspection act, which they have to accredit in the next five days what they have done to the place, with the aim of identifying what happened, for the demarcation of responsibilities or, where appropriate, for a sanction and a closing.”
He pointed out that the company will have five days to present the tests before the Civil Protection Department that maintenance work was carried out on the dock and that it was in optimal conditions, which will perform a verification to determine if what happened was an accident or product of an omission:
“The idea is that they tell us if they maintained two or three months ago, six or eight months ago. ‘In case they do not deliver that, they will become creditors to a sanction, which would be a fine – which could even reach 30 thousand pesos – or even a closure, depending on the documents they show.”
The official explained that they received the report from the Tourist Police on a collapse at kilometer 6.5 on the side of the Nichupté lagoon, after tourists went down from a boat that hit the dock and caused it to collapse.
“We went to the area to verify that people are well, that they have no affectation, did not have it and did not need transfer or anything, but there were some with scratch and we proceed to leave the company an act to express what their right suits them and also request all the documentation with respect to the dock and their logs, because the possible cause of that was the lack of maintenance,”
revealed.
Riveroll Ribbon acknowledged that, until before the collapse of this dock, The company had an consent that is pre -approved And one day after the incident, staff of the Civil Protection Department carried out an inspection.
“Yes had the consent, but because they all come out precaproked and they guarantee within these permits that comply with their documents and that they should physically work. Then we make the inspection visit, because they had not had inspection visits until last Friday,”
He added and clarified that the address under his charge prepares a verification route through the Cancun docks.
