On the afternoon-night of Saturday, May 3, a fustle escape caused by an alleged clandestine shot generated chaos in the municipality of Mineral de la Reforma.
The situation caused the mobilization of dozens of civil protection elements, the Municipal Police and Petroleum Personnel (Pemex), who worked for hours to control the emergency.
According to preliminary reports, the escape was detected thanks to multiple emergency calls to 911 made by inhabitants of the town of El Venado, who alerted about a strong smell of hydrocarbon that invaded their homes.
The concern of the settlers increased in the risk of a fire or explosion, which forced the authorities to ask neighbors not to leave their homes and stay away from the affected area.
After a review at the scene, a large puddle of fuelle was located in a depopulated area, as well as a possible clandestine shot connected to a Pemex duct.
According to the authorities, alleged huachicoleros would have drilled the pipeline to extract the hydrocarbon, but something went wrong, which caused the spill.
The containment works included the interruption of the hydrocarbon flow from the PEMEX Central and the hermetic seal of the affected pipeline.
Although the escape was controlled, there were no detained people, and the case was turned to the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) for its investigation.
