Prince Harry has broken his silence in an interview with the British BBC chain, in which he addressed key issues about his relationship with the royal family and his recent judicial setback regarding his security in the United Kingdom. His public appearance, this Friday, May 2, coincides with the sentence that has dismissed his appeal against the British government, which means a significant blow in his attempt to recover the protection he had before leaving his duties as an active member of royalty.
During the interview, Carlos III’s son spoke high and clear about such rough issues as His relationship with his father and his hopes of “reconciling” with his family, After the Duke of Sussex ceased to be a member of the royalty in exercise in 2020, when the famous Megxit occurred, which shook the crown. Since then, Harry, his wife Meghan Markle and his son, Prince Archie, moved to the United States, where his daughter, Princess Lilibet, was later born.

“I would love to reconcile with my family; it makes no sensesaid the prince. Since the beginning of 2024, when the monarch was diagnosed with prostate cancer, communication between them has been practically non -existent, although Harry traveled to London then to visit him.

However, the path to reconciliation does not seem simple. “If they don’t want it, it is exclusively yours “, He said resignation. He also recognized the tensions with his brother, Prince Guillermo, and other members of his family: “There have been so many disagreements and differences between some members of my family and me. This current situation, which has been in terms of life and human security for five years, is the point of friction. It is the only thing left.”

It is also clear that “Some members of my family will never forgive me to have written the book. Of course, many things will never forgive me, ”he confessed with regret, in relation to the book he published in 2023, entitled In the shadowwhere he told ‘his truth’ about the British monarchy, his marriage to Meghan Markle and other family issues.

At another point in the interview, the Duke of Sussex declared how he is currently, after the last events and explained: “At this moment I feel very disappointed. It is a minority. The press itself has encouraged so much hatred towards my wife, towards me and even towards my children. It is difficult to forgive. There are decisions taken, things that have happened since 2016 that I can forgive now, ”he said.
“I already overcome it. PYou can forgive my family’s participation: my father, my brother and my stepmother. I can forgive. I can also forgive, to a large extent, to the press for so many things that have happened, ”he acknowledged.
Harry’s judicial setback: a lost battle
One of the most tense moments of the interview was when he approached his recent legal defeat in the British courts. The prince had filed an appeal against the decision of the Executive Committee for the protection of royalty and public figures (RAVEC), which established that his level of police protection would be different from the one he had before leaving his real functions.

The London Court of Appeal, chaired by Sir Geoffrey Vos, Lord justice Bean and Lord Justice Edis, rejected Harry’s attempt to recover his security funded privately. In the ruling, Judge Vos explained that his protection would be evaluated case by case, so he could not receive the same level of security as before. “The Duke, in effect, was entering and leaving the protection group provided by RAVEC. Outside the United Kingdom, he was out of the group, but in the United Kingdom, his security would be considered appropriate,” said you.
The British government argued that allowing individuals to pay for police protection could sit a dangerous precedent. In addition, the court considered that its security was reduced, since it no longer performs official functions.

Harry expressed his disappointment for the judicial decision and shared that he believed that his father had a lot of control and ability to resolve the situation in terms of his security: “Ultimately, all this could be resolved thanks to him,” he told the British chain. “Not necessarily intervening, but making me aside, allowing experts to do what is necessary and perform a network risk assessment (RNB).”
It is precisely the lack of security that prevents him from returning with his family to the United Kingdom, a reason that causes him great regret: “I do not imagine a world in which I can bring my wife and children back to the United Kingdom at this time. They will miss everything. I love my country, I have always loved it, despite what some people have done in that country.”

He added: “I miss the United Kingdom, of course. I am very sad not to be able to show my children my homeland. ” He also said that “I would not have come so far if I had no strong evidence of the facts that reveal why the decision was made, and I am here talking to you today. We have lost the appeal, but the other party has won by keeping me in danger. So, again, there are many doubts that many people will have. I have the whole truth, I have all the knowledge now, throughout the legal process.”

In the interview, he wanted to explain what led him to make the decision to go to justice and claim something that, he considers, essential for him and his family: “Put in my place. If you take a step back to try to create a different role, the same official role, but a different employment relationship with the institution in which you were born, for the good of your wife, your own mental health and that of your child Telling the other face of the story, God does not want anything.

And he continued: “In 2020, when that decision was made, I couldn’t believe it. I really couldn’t believe it. I thought that, with all the disagreements and all the chaos that is happening, the only thing I could trust was in my family to keep me safe. And they not only decided to withdraw the security in the United Kingdom, but also warned all the governments of the world to not protect us.”
The answer from Buckingham Palace
