Colman Domingo, who is on the crest of the wave as an actor, made a hinge between the MET Gala (per Metropolian Museum in New York), and the exhibition, this time dedicated to the black dandi, which is the excuse for that demonstration of luxury and extravagance that is celebrated in Manhattan every first Monday of May.
This is the gala that has caused an enthusiasm that had not been seen in a long time. If on other occasions the conversation was dominated by the deployment of wealth and frivolity, the issue this time led to something more authentic, and more at this time. The costume offered a less trivial general appearance than in other editions. It would like it or not, the cut was more elegant, which does not mean that there were exceptions.
The story, with the election result of November, has led to its premiere and the exaltation of the black man and its elegance has occurred at a complex political moment, with the government of Donald Trump chasing all that and those who bet on diversity, equity and inclusion.

Perhaps that is why, in challenge to Trump, the great surprise of the night, already advanced the celebration, consisted of the emergence of Kamala Harris, former vice president and Democratic candidate last November, who made his debut in this event.
He went to the party but eluded the red carpet, which in this case was blue. So he was, although without wires. Harris’s name did not appear on the list of attendees who disseminated in advance. His participation occurred a few days after he publicly denounced Trump’s actions and warned of a constitutional crisis for his contempt to the legal system.
“I have returned.” This is the message, even without participating in the photographs catwalk, which clearly detached, as if spoke his asymmetric black silk dress with a chip -type neckline and a loose white sleeve.
Exercising as one of the co -chants of the gala (the others were the singer and designer Pharrell Williams; rapper Asap Rocky, and the pilot Lewis Hamilton; with the basketball player LeBron James of honorary president), Domingo appeared in the previous press conference, the most extravagant press conference that exists, which serves to talk about the gala and the exhibition. Elegant dress without falling into an excess of formalism, the actor nominated for the Oscar recalled that his style in the clothing learned him from three men (his stepfather, his father and his brother) and “a couple of ladies.”
His inspiration came with the elegance of his relatives on Friday night to party after collecting the check or moved on Sundays to attend service in the church. All of that is not imposed, but has its origin in everyday life. “I am here on behalf of many generations of black men who have freed themselves through style,” he said.

He concluded his speech with a few words from the playwright and director George C.Wolf, after making an introduction of the phrase. “The appointment is often used to underline the innovative spirit of black people. George said: God I believe black people and black people create the style.”
Colman put the tone of an exhibition dedicated exclusively to black designers, some of them scarcely known, and the first that focuses only on the knight’s clothes. Under the appellation of Superfine: tailoring black stylethe exhibition that opens to the Public Saturday is inspired by the work of historian Monica L. Miller and her book Slaves to fashion: black dandyism of black diasporic identityin which the black dandi analyzed from the eighteenth century to the end of the XX.
The first step of the exhibition is to define the term of Dandy, “someone who studies above all to dress elegant and fashion.” But as stressed in the first part, entitled “Property”, the starting point in slavery is established and from there it is something that changed over time. From the entrance to this route, what some slaves dressed, to which their “masters” dressed elegantly when they served the family or at social parties. They were only objects that had to give a good image. From that moment on, the release that highlights the way of dressing is evolved.
“The black style is really related to thinking about how fashion and power are connected,” said Miller, the curator along with Andrew Bolton, artistic manager at the MET Fashion Institute.
And so it was demonstrated in this gala, which serves as a fundraising act for the MET Fashion Institute. In this edition the record of 31 million dollars was reached. The entrance went to $ 75,000 and not all who want, for money they have, they can attend. That requires the approval of De De Anna Wintour, editor of Vogue and the great teacher of ceremonies.
Sunday, dressed at night to the preacher inspired by his father, he was one of the early morning to appear on the blue carpet. The black color predominated in the costumes, but the great blow of effect came with the irruption of Diana Ross dressed in white and a tail that required eight bearers. Stevie Wonder, in black, also carried tail, although nothing comparable to Ross. Wonder, at 74, participated for the first time in this event, the so -called Oscar de la Costa Este.
There was a separate meeting from the protagonist of the series White LotusPatrick Scharzenegger and Aime Loo Wood shared photographers and smiled. Before he had traveled Walton Goggins, Aime’s partner in the series and who, they count, ended up badly in the personal relationship.
“Here we are,” Rosalía replied in Spanish when required by streaming retransmission cameras. “I am the mannequin,” he replied of his tight white dress, designed by Olivier Rousteing, Balmain designer, who wore a bag -shaped bag, as a sign of identity.
It was widely surpassed by Andre 3000 carrying a piano behind the back. It was a miniature piano, but it was still great.
“I am learning,” the Catalan replied when asked about her work as an actress in Euphoria. He said goodbye with a “come on and goodbye”, both words again in Spanish.
At the moment Shakira broke out, all in pink and a long tail that required six ayundants to manipulate all the material. His presence suggested what former player Gerard Piqué is lost, his ex -husband.
In clear contrast, Madonna broke out with a white tuxedo, bow tie, vest, fajín, gloves, all matching, only broken by the brown of a Havana in his hand. Smoking is not allowed in MET, because it is dangerous for personal health and that of the paintings. He posed at all times with the cigarette off, advancing a hip, with a frozen stone face in an ironic grimace.
Sometimes it gave the impression of being a duel of queens. Kendall Jenner posed dressed in a jacket suit and a pronounced neckline while, looking to the other side of the catwalk, almost touching her back, Hailey Bieber towards the same with less neckline but showing much more leg. Her husband Justin was not seen.
There was a proliferation, more than a dozen, of dresses with long lines, as if those who dressed will drag a trailer.
After ten o’clock at night, when there were already guests who left, he made his entrance Rihanna, a couple of Asap Rocky, one of the co -presidents of the gala. This time he beat his own record to be late, which established it in 2023. He smiled at the photographers and everything was forgiven. He climbed the stairs to the party calmly. “Riri,” they chanted him. He accepted the congratulations of a reporter, which seemed to confirm his pregnancy (his third child). It was the fourth pregnant celebrity of the night.
“I can barely blink, but I will do it for you,” he gave to a photographer.
Thus concluded the red carpet that was blue. He did not attend one of those who until doing nothing was one of the great Dandy, who liked to wear cape. Sean combs, once Colega de Wintour, was in New York, but locked in a Brooklyn prison. He wore the prison monkey. This Monday began in Manhattan, south of the MET, the trial against the magnate of music for sex trafficking and several more crimes.
