Black elegance and the discreet surprise of Kamala Harris

He went to the party but eluded the red carpet, which in this case was blue. So he was, although without wires. Harris’s name did not appear on the list of attendees who disseminated in advance. His participation occurred a few days after he publicly denounced Trump’s actions and warned of a constitutional crisis for his contempt to the legal system.

Under the appellation of Superfine: tailoring black stylethe exhibition that opens to the Public Saturday is inspired by the work of historian Monica L. Miller and her book Slaves to fashion: black dandyism of black diasporic identityin which the black dandi analyzed from the eighteenth century to the end of the XX.

The first step of the exhibition is to define the term of Dandy, “someone who studies above all to dress elegant and fashion.” But as stressed in the first part, entitled “Property”, the starting point in slavery is established and from there it is something that changed over time. From the entrance to this route, what some slaves dressed, to which their “masters” dressed elegantly when they served the family or at social parties. They were only objects that had to give a good image. From that moment on, the release that highlights the way of dressing is evolved.

“The black style is really related to thinking about how fashion and power are connected,” said Miller, the curator along with Andrew Bolton, artistic manager at the MET Fashion Institute.

And so it was demonstrated in this gala, which serves as a fundraising act for the MET Fashion Institute. In this edition the record of 31 million dollars was reached.
