During her visit to the Atacama region, the presidential candidate of Chile Vamos, Evelyn Matthei (UDI), presented a controversial proposal to build a new high security prison in full desert, 43 kilometers from Copiapó, in the same land where the future penitentiary enclosure “El Arenal” —impulsed by the current government is already projected.
For Senator Yasna Provoste, representative of the region, it is another “offer” in the presidential race on the right. The legislator and militant DC said that Matthei “will not turn the Atacama region into a prison sacrifice zone.”
“We need to have serious candidates for our country,” he added. Provoste was one step further and stated that “right -wing candidate Evelyn Matthei continues with her clicks.”
“He went to Copiapó only to give bad news, he wants a new prison that brings together hundreds of high dangerous criminals near Copiapó, against the opinion of all experts he wants to turn us into a prison sacrifice zone,” said the representative of Atacama.
