An earthquake of magnitude 4.1 -Preliminar shook the Coquimbo region this Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 8:24 p.m. According to preliminary data, the epicenter was located in the LAT coordinates: -30.7 and Lon: -71.29, 62 kilometers deep.
The event was 11 kilometers north of Punitaqui, which would reduce the risk of Tsunami alerts.
The National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) explained that the earthquake, cataloged “lower intensity”, did not leave immediate reports of damages to people or critical infrastructure.
“Our teams continue to evaluate possible effects on basic services and structures. The results will be communicated through official reports,” said the institution.
The intermediate depth movement was felt with intensity Mercalli IV in Punitaqui, while localities such as Monte Patria, Ovalle, Vicuña, Combarbalá and Río Hurtado registered an intensity III.
