The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew in 14 of the 16 regions of the country during 2024, according to the preliminary information of the national accounts published by the Central Bank.
In parallel, household consumption rose in 15 regions, totaling a 1% advance nationwide.
By macrozonas, all contributed to the annual result of 2.6%, but highlighted the north with an expansion of 7.3% of Antofagasta, a figure well above the rest and also catapults the GDP per capita of the area over US $ 49 thousand (see table).
In this, mining was decisive, seconded by the dynamism of electricity generation, associated with solar energy, and construction.
Despite dynamism, household consumption only rose 1.6% influenced by more spending on restaurants and hotels.
Tarapacá closed with 4% GDP increase also favored with the performance of copper mining and, to a lesser extent, for fishing and personal services.
The contrast in the north was marked by the region of Arica and Parinacota, whose GDP fell 0.9% affected by construction and mining.
This did not prevent household consumption from improving 1.2%, explained mostly by that destined for food and drinks.
Below 2%
In the center, the Coquimbo product improved 1.3%, driven by most activities, protruding personal services, transport and mining; while the consumption of their homes advanced only 0.6%.
In parallel, the growth of 1.7% observed in Valparaíso was a reflection of the performance of transport, mining and personal services. This was accompanied by a household expense that increased only 0.7%.
In the case of the Metropolitan Region, which expanded 1.8%, trade, transport and personal services were decisive, with a consumption of families that increased 1%.
Cherries, great ally
The 5.8% increase in the O’Higgins region-the second most important number in the country-obeyed the performance of agricultural-sailor and trade items, which were favored by a positive fruit season, in particular of the cherry.
Despite this, household consumption only grew 1.5% associated with services and the highest expense in non -durable goods such as costumes, footwear and food.
Also underpinned by cherries, in addition to trade and electricity generation, Maule’s GDP expanded 5.2%. Instead, the contribution of the wine industry descended.
Meanwhile, the consumption of households in the area advanced 1.9% hand in hand and spending on non -durable goods associated with costumes, footwear and pharmaceutical products.
The performances of agricultural-sailor activities and manufacturing industry explained the growth of 3.6% of the Ñuble region. In the first, the fruit production associated with the cherry highlighted, while in the industry the elaboration of food, cellulose and wood made it. In contrast, construction fell, registering the main negative incidence in the result.
The consumption of households, on the other hand, showed an increase of 1.7% associated with the highest expense in non -durable goods, such as food, drinks, costumes and footwear, and the highest consumption of services.
The Biobío GDP scored a 2.5% increase associated with the contributions of the manufacturing industry, where it highlighted the manufacture of cellulose, and the electricity generation. At the same time, it descended in extractive fishing and household consumption did not register changes.
Red in manufacturing industry
In the South Macrozone, the growth of 4.2% of the river region was mainly driven by the manufacturing industry, where it highlighted the elaboration of food and cellulose, and the agricultural sector where it led the livestock production.
In contrast, household consumption decreased by 0.6% due mostly due to the lowest expense on food, drinks and fuels.
The GDP La Araucanía improved 3.0% thanks to positive contributions in most activities, highlighting personal services, trade and manufacturing industry, in particular food and cellulose development. Household consumption advanced 1.1%.
The Los Lagos region recorded an increase of 1.5%, in line with the results of personal services, trade and the agricultural-Silvicultural sector, which were partly counteracted by the manufacturing industry, associated with food production. Household consumption grew 1.0%, explained mainly due to the highest expense in non -durable goods, particularly food, costumes and footwear.
One southern end of contrasts
In the southern area of the country there was an obvious contrast in terms of activity.
While the Aysén region accused a 0.2% decrease due to fishing falls, associated with salmon cultivation, and mining, Magellan GDP exhibited a 5.6% increase explained by the performance of the manufacturing industry, in which the manufacture of chemicals highlighted.
But the consumption of households had similar advances, although of less amount than in the rest of the country: 0.4% in the first and 0.8% in the second.
