Opposition deputies place the minrel in the face of threats to Chile’s foreign trade

The opposition deputies Stephan Schubert (IND-REP) and Mauro González (RN), officiated to the authorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to address the threats of Australian candidates of prohibit the importation of Chilean salmon and the observations of the United States that keep Chile in the “blacklist” for breaches in intellectual property.

In that context, Schubert stressed the importance of providing for the consequences of these tensions. “We cannot wait for these threats, two world powers, to become concrete measures. Chile must act in advanceprotecting both exporters and communities that depend on this activity. ”

For his part, González located the government authorities on a subject that is the responsibility of the regions of the south of the country, such as salmon export.

“It is essential that the government clarify if this threat of prohibition by Australia has legal support under current commercial treaties. We must ensure that our international agreements protect our salmon industry, which is an economic pillar of southern Chile,” he said.

Both parliamentarians claimed to be waiting for authorities’ responses to include detailed reports on legal and economic implications of these scenarios, together with a specific action plan.

“Chile needs leadership and firmness in the defense of its commercial interests. We cannot allow these threats to check our economy,” Schubert concluded.
