The former Subsecretary of Crime Prevention, Eduardo Vergara, has been appointed as head of the newly created Citizen Security Division of the Institutions Sector for development (IFD) of the Inter -American Development Bank (IDB).
Vergara, who left his position at the Undersecretariat for Crime Prevention last November in the midst of the Monsalve case, will assume its new role May 15 of this year.
The nomination was released this day by the institution, where they detailed that the former Subsecretary “He was competitively selected to serve as head of the newly created Department of Citizen Security.”
This appointment, they add, occurs after the organizational changes approved by the Board of Directors in October 2024, which raised the Citizen Security and justice Cluster of the IFD to the Division category.
“This improvement underlines the growing importance of expanding and prioritizing attention to citizen security and justice, in line with the new IDB Impact+, as well as with our efforts to promote the alliance for security, justice and development,” they say.
From Vergara, they indicate that as a Chilean citizen it contributes 15 years of professional experience and academic training in citizen security, “In addition to a solid career in team leadership and the implementation of evidence based on dynamic and complex environments.”
They also emphasize that “he held key positions in the Chilean government, as head of the Security Division and as Undersecretary of Crime Prevention, where he led important crime prevention initiatives.”
