The Consumer Price Index (CPI) of Chile rose 0.2% in April, the National Institute of Statistics (INE) reported on a variation that was below market expectations and led to the indicator in 12 months to moderate to 4.5 percent.
“They highlighted the increases in the divisions of diverse goods and services, as well as housing and basic services, and the decrease in costumes and footwear,” the INE said in a statement.
The consensus of analysts’ estimates pointed to an advance of 0.3% in internal prices last month, according to the Bloomberg survey.
In the fourth month of the year, nine of the thirteen divisions that make up the CPI basket contributed positive incidents in the monthly variation of the index and four presented negative incidents.
Among the outstanding, goods and services, he scored monthly increases in five of his six classes. The most important was products for personal care (1.4%), and jewelry and watches (5.9%). Of the 22 products that make up the division, 16 presented increases in their prices, highlighting toilet paper (2.4%) and jewelry (6%).
For its part, housing and basic services recorded monthly increases in eight of its 10 classes. The most important was rent (0.4%), followed by materials for the maintenance of housing (1.3%). Of the 15 products that make up the division, ten consigned increases in their prices.
On the other sidewalk, costumes and footwear he recorded descents in three of his four classes. The most important was costume (-2.2%), followed by footwear (-1.2%).
In the products, the INE highlights women’s shoes (-4.8%) and pants, skirts and dresses for women (-3.7%).
Other increases that caught attention in April were tomatoes (7.1%), new cars (0.8%) and foods acquired in restaurants, coffees and the like (0.6%).
In turn, gasoline reported a monthly decrease of 1.2% and the prices of soft drinks fell 3.4 percent.
