

President Petro’s government is promoting alternative labor reform in Congress, Document that also contains the modifications on the payment of extra hours in Colombia, one of the most important initiatives of the document.
According to the document, it is expected that the work that is done more now is paid over 100 %, a measure that merchants and entrepreneurs point out as possibly detrimental to the generation of new positions.


The payment of extra hours in Colombia, in case it comes to change, will be recognized in the fortnights or monthly payment that the worker receives at the hands of the employer.
The debate is, for example, in what should be the limit of the night working day. The government indicates that it is from 6:00 in the afternoon, while the initiative that rests in Congress will seek to be only from 8:00 at night, which would be an hour less than what the current norm dictates.

In this way, and pending that the bill in Congress is defined, 100 % surcharge that article may be implemented gradually by the employer.
- As of July 2025, the surcharge will be increased for working on a mandatory or party day to eighty percent (80 %)
- As of July 2026, the surcharge will be increased for working on a mandatory rest day or party day to ninety percent (90 %)
