“Ovary cancer is a disease that, in its early stages, is usually silent and asymptomatic. Therefore, it is important to be attentive to any unusual symptom to achieve an early diagnosis,” Dr. Wilson Múnera, an oncologist Gynecologist at San Vicente Foundation Medellín.

To raise awareness about this disease, The hospital shared four fundamental data:

1. The cytology does not detect ovarian cancer. This test focuses on the cervix, so it is not useful for identifying anomalies in the ovaries.

2. The early diagnosis improves prognosis. If detected before it is disseminated, recovery possibilities increase considerably.

3. A healthy lifestyle reduces risk. Maintaining adequate weight, avoiding smoking and practicing exercise regularly can decrease the probability of developing this disease.

4. Knowing symptoms can save lives. Persistent abdominal swelling, fast -filled feeling, pelvic or abdominal pain, and urinary changes are alert signs that should not be ignored.

The diagnosis of this pathology requires clinical studies such as transvaginal ultrasound, tumor markers in blood and tomographs. The treatment usually combines surgery and chemotherapy, adapted to the state of health and the stage of each patient.
