An interlocution and dialogue space. The meeting, scheduled for this Thursday, summoned former presidents, experts and congressmen to collect comments against the Economic Cooperation Agreement with the Chinese government, which represents a strategic turn in the foreign relations of the country.

The United States announced its position. The representative of the United States Government in Latin America, Mauricio Claver-Carone, announced that Petro’s trip to China would put the national market at risk, especially the rose and coffee sector that has its main market in the US.
For his part, Interior Minister Armando Benedetti intervened in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and described Claver-Carone’s statements as a threat to the independence and autonomy of the national government.
Why does it matter? The silk route is a global infrastructure megaproject led by China since 2013 to connect Asia with Europe, Africa and Latin America through terrestrial and sea routes.
The project would link Colombia with China’s commercial strategy, force the country to stop recognizing Taiwan and could cause tensions with the United States.
