The elite of world female cycling arrives in Burgos. Specifically, Neila’s lagoons will be the stage of the end of the fifth stage, the first great exam for favorites to the final triumph of the race. Its ramps will mark the first important differences and a solvent leader will come from the Sierra who will try to defend the leadership until Sunday, when the second large mountainous appointment of the race is played in Asturian lands.
The day will begin at 1:45 p.m. in the Soriana town of Golmayo and the runners will take the Burgos road. After passing through Abejo and San Leonardo de Yagüe they will enter the province of Burgos and will go to Vilviestre del Pinar and from there to Quintanar de la Sierra. Here will begin the first port of the mountain. On the road that unites Quintanar and Neila will arrive at the hill and turn left towards the lagoons. However, they will not culminate this level and stay at the Alto de Rozavas, with an ascent of four kilometers and more than 8% of average unevenness. They will descend again to Quintanar and repeat the ascent again, although this time they will rise to the lagoons. They will be almost seven kilometers of ascent and with an average percentage of 8.7%, although in some of the ramps it will increase to 15%.
The hardness will be enough to leave the race on track and reduce the number of favorites to the final triumph, at least until Sunday, when the last day between La Robla and El Alto de Cotobello is played, with three ports on its route and hardness.
In the return to Spain there are several favorites although one stands out above the rest. This is Demi Vollering, that this season militates at the FDJ and that already knows what it is to win the return to Spain. But also knows, and very well, today’s arrival.
