“The last of Us” is back tonight, May 4 — but some of our favorite characters aren’t.
Fans are still reeling from the loss of Pedro Pascal’s Joel, who was shockingly killed in Episode 2 of the show’s second season.
In last week’s episode, Ellie (Bella Ramsey) vows to get revenge on the people who killed him. She and Dina (Isabela Merced) venture off.
Meanwhile, the show also introduces the Seraphites, a faction of people who worship someone called the prophet.

What happened during Season 2, Episode 3 of ‘The Last of Us’?
The episode dealt, in part, with the fallout of Joel’s death.
Tommy (Gabriel Luna), Joel’s brother, sees his body and tells him to give Sarah, Joel’s daughter who died in the pilot episode, his love.
Ellie, meanwhile, wakes up in the hospital remembering Joel’s death at the hands of Abby (Kaitlyn Dever).
She has an interaction with Gail (Catherine O’Hara), Jackson’s resident therapist, about curious words that Joel told Gail before he died: “I saved her,” he said.
Months later, a town hall meeting convenes to vote on Ellie’s proposal to avenge Joel’s death. They figured out that Washington Liberation Front (WLF), based in Seattle, was behind it. The council votes down Ellie’s proposal but she decides to go with Dina anyway.
On their way to Seattle, Ellie stops at Joel’s gravesite. They make it to Seattle by the end of the episode — and they also get a sense of their adversaries.
Audiences see a faction of the Seraphites, a religious group, at the beginning of the episode. Ellie and Dina pass by them later — and they’ve all been killed by the WLF.
