With the summer just around the corner and the corresponding temperature rise, the Benalmádena City Council has launched a campaign … of clearing and cleaning in streams and municipal plots, starting with the area of Carvajal and with an eye on fire prevention.
The Councilor for the Environment, Juan Olea, explained that the latest rains have forced to modify these tasks, which he said are carried out throughout the year and that they have their final stretch this season. The North Santángelo area, as well as several servitude areas are among the areas where it is planned to act.
“The City Council plans to complete all these works before July and August, where we cannot undertake debrises due to fire risk in compliance with current legislation of hydraulic public domain and in terms of forest fires,” said Olea.
-These preventive tasks consist of improving, both the drainage capacity of the streams, and in performing a special treatment to avoid the rapid spread of forest fires, and facilitate access to periodic work of police and cleanliness.
The main actions include selective clearing, always respecting the native vegetation, acebuches, chopos, wicker, and the like, the elimination of specimens of invasive exotic species, acacias, ricinos, cañaveral and others, as well as pruning in the height of branches near the facades, dry trees, reduction of the vegetation fuel for its incorporation in the substrate the withdrawal of the numerous accumulations of urban solid waste that contaminate and distort negatively the river landscape of the channels.
All this set of actions is completed with the application of specific phytosanitary treatments depending on the species and the time of application and also with the plantation with riverbank species in the sections of channel that meet the appropriate conditions for their correct development.
