This is PP Diario, pp football.
Hi how are things? Today we are on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.
I speak to you from the Arguelles neighborhood, in Madrid, in Spain.
I am Pepe Rodríguez and this is the 1651 program of the daily PP soccer section, that podcast that for two and a quarter hours, more or less every day, tries to bring this of the current of the sport in a general sense, in a global sense and here, in the first third of the program, here, in the middle of the space of the known universe.
Go to know, if we are not also in the middle of the space of many others and multiple universes to meet, we are going to chat of football.
We are going to talk about the defeat of Barça in the semifinals of the Champions League in the Giuseppe Meazza of Milan against Inter.
In the extension, 4-3 after putting 2-0 below, as in the first leg, which ended 3-3 in Montjuic, to trace in the second half, second half anthological of Barça, which ends 2-3, yes, except at the last moment at the discount, that tie to three by the Inter Milan, which takes the extension, and in the extension I do believe that the inter is slightly superior. Also in extension and here, peace and then glory, eliminated and so far, here comes the story of this year of Barça in the Champions League.
And it seems to me that it is memorable, remarkable and it seems to me that you have to underline both good and bad.
That there is, that exists.
The first thing I mean is that yesterday I thought, at last, the destruction of the indestructible Barça.
Barça had survived throughout the year a lot of situations in which it was seen between the sword and the wall and that seeing between the sword and the wall, he had reacted with a spirit and soul of gigantic team, of fantastic equipment, with resources, but also with the ability not to be overcome by any bad situation.
And I will say that the same thing happened yesterday.
Yesterday he lost because losing is part of this whole story and because you can win or lose with rivals of a height like Inter Milan, which I think is a team inferior to Barça, but that is on the step of those who can win the Champions League and from which he can fight and look at the face of Barça.
So sometimes you end up losing, but throughout the year it had already been seen several similar occasions and Barça had survived.
No yesterday, yesterday was the destruction of this indestructible Barça.
The next thing I mean is that the season does not conclude here, the league remains, they have won the Cup, they have won the Super Cup, what happens in the League is very relevant, but the most important thing is always the Champions League.
And the most important thing is to be able to fight for the Champions League.
That is the obligation to which a club like Barça takes you.
And they have fulfilled that.
And so many years have been far from that obligation with painful defeats and with a feeling of being far from anyone who is fighting for the orejona.
Unless you have fallen in the first phase of the Champions League, up to twice, something unimaginable, which makes no sense with this club, the mere fact of having made a competition that takes you to the extension in semifinals away from home and that leads you to a situation in which you could have won, you can feel proud, I think it is very valuable.
It is not the same in the case of Barça, seeing the last decade they have had, than in the case of other teams.
Therefore, in this concrete situation, in this specific context, it is to think about how fantastic the itching has been to feel again that Europe fears Barça.
And that is a lot. That does not mean, you know that I am not on that side, that there will be other opportunities, the future is brilliant, the young … I don’t know that. The same yes, no.
That has no relevance today.
Today the important thing is to feel again in your place, in your place, the place where a club like Barça always lives.
The Champions is our territory and we fight it.
Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, sometimes qualifiers like this occur.
But we are here, and go if we are afraid of Europe.
And from that point of view, nothing to object.
But it must also be said that it is a lost opportunity, that you escape the possibility of playing a Champions League final when, in principle, of course it still seems like it, you are a better team than Inter Milan.
And therefore, there are also things to put in face.
There are also defects to put on the table, there are improvements that must be demanded and an examination of conscience, self -evaluation or, if not, of course, a test must be done.
