Morelia, Mich. April 30, 2025.- Protectionism towards animals has been fundamental to advance the definition and implementation of animal rights, but now it is necessary to separate him from animal welfare, said Beatriz Salas García, zootechnical veterinary doctor and member of the State Bioethics Commission.
In an interview on Wednesday, at the Information, Art and Culture Center (CIAC), Beatriz Salas explained that protectionism is understood as the work of people without training in veterinary medicine, “with good intention and much heart”, but without parameters.
-In contrast, animal welfare is part of the studies of veterinary medicine, with defined concepts, a theoretical framework and established methods.
“Protectionism is welcome, because it has helped a lot to achieve a very important advance in animals rights, but systematization in animal care is required,” he explained.
While veterinary medicine specialists do not yet reach all areas, it is necessary to promote their participation in decision making that involve the well -being of the specimens.
