The Agency for the Implementation of the Medicine and Training career in Human Resources in Health works on the design of the training instances for future teachers of the career. He launched a program of four diplomatures on virtual teaching and learning environments in medicine, technological innovation, artificial intelligence applied to medical education and data analysis for pedagogical improvement.
The geneticist Sara Zurita Martínez, a member of the agency’s technical team, explained that the work is aimed at providing academic support to the National University of Jujuy (UNJU), which will nest the future Medicine career, and that last year the career project was presented before the National Commission for University Evaluation and Accreditation (Coneau). He estimated that “the procedure has maturation times typical of evaluation and accreditation procedures,” he said.
He explained that the evaluation contemplates the academic proposal, the structure, the teaching staff, the building and technological infrastructure necessary to dictate a career of this size. “The Coneau already made a first visit with positive observations. Subsequently, the technical documentation was expanded and the presentation with complementary information was reinforced. We are waiting for the final opinion to formally start the race,” said Zurita Martínez.
The career was initially developed with the support of the National University of Tucumán, and currently has the tutoring and mentoring of the National University of Córdoba (UNC) and the National University Arturo Jauretche, which provide assistance in the training of future teachers, requested by the Coneau. “Chair headlines will provide tutoring to our teachers. The idea is that, over time, that mentor is increasingly spaced and that our professionals can develop autonomously,” he explained.
One of the central challenges is to consolidate a solid teaching staff and that training goes beyond disciplinary knowledge. “Teachers need tools in pedagogy, educational psychology, competency evaluation, classroom management, ethics, communication, development of critical thinking and use of educational technologies,” he said and estimated that it is not just about being a good doctor, but knowing how to teach.
Although Jujuy has prominent professionals, they have no formal experience in teaching. “Today education has completely changed the paradigm of what it was before having master classes and listening to an hour an hour. Education changed, the role of the teacher too. It must be a tutor, a facilitator of the learning process,” he said.
The race will be based at the Herminio Arrieta Technical College in Libertador General San Martín, which has Physics, Chemistry and Biology laboratories. “Virtuality and digital environments demand a different teacher. Today we work with inverted classrooms, where the student must read, analyze videos and participate actively. The teacher must adapt to a more interactive dynamic, as a guide and companion,” he said. That is why the program was designed with the contribution of teachers and engineers of the UNJJ with experience in virtual education that will address four diplomatures.
