Valladolid, May 7 (EE) .- More than 140,000 from 629 centers will participate this year in the consumption, vegetable and milk consumption program to a healthy diet and, at the same , make visible the of the field through visits to farms, cooperatives and agri- companies.

This initiative of the Junta de Castilla y León has a budget of 557,000 euros.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development, María González Corral, and Education, Rocío Lucas, have visited on Wednesday the College of Child and Primary Education (CEIP) Our Lady of Villar, located in the Valladolid town of Laguna de Duero, where they have witnessed one of these deliveries, which began April and will continue to be held throughout May.

With this initiative, co -financed by the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund (Feaga), it is planned to distribute 176,400 kilograms of pears, apples and carrots and 135,400 liters of milk, provided by companies of Castilla y León such as Cofrubi (Carracedelo, León), Tabuenca (Cuéllar, Segovia) and Gaza (Cores, Cores, Zamora).

Complementary measures

The distribution program, which was launched in the 2017/2018 school year, is part of an autonomous strategy in which the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development, Education and Health, which has other complementary activities, in addition to two initiatives called ‘Farmers and Livestocks of the Future’ and ‘Young Value Chain’ participate.

Complementary activities include fruits and vegetable tasting workshops; the installation of inflatables where we talk about the characteristics and benefits of these products in a playful and fun way; support in the creation and maintenance of school gardens; The sending of didactic and promotion material, and visits to different agri -food industries.

For its part, the ‘Farmers and Livestock Farmers’ initiative is focused on schoolchildren from 4th Primary Education. Its objective aims to awaken possible vocations to boost generational relief and, for this, it contemplates visits to agricultural and livestock farms, cooperatives, agricultural FP centers and agri -food industries.

The activity called ‘Young Value Chain’, aimed at students between the ages of 12 and 18, wants to familiarize the students of the participating centers, 73 in this course, with the agricultural activity and become aware of the importance it has for the whole of society and its contribution to healthy eating.
