Doha, on May 2 (QNA)-Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q), Dr. Javaid Sheikh, announced that the Faculty, an academic institution associated with the Qatar Foundation, will graduate this year 45 new doctors, so that the total number of graduates will amount to 596 to 641. He stressed that this sustained growth reflects the success of the Provide the system with highly qualified professionals.

In an interview with the Qatar agency (QNA), Dr. Sheikh explained that the WCM-Q began its academic activity in 2002 and celebrated its promotion in 2008, with 15 graduated doctors. Since then, the number has been constantly increasing, until reaching its most numerous cohort in 2024, with 50 graduates of 13 nationalities, including 18 Qatari citizens.

The Dean stressed that this growth accounts for the growing confidence in the academic program of the Faculty and its ability to train scientifically prepared and professionally trained doctors, in response to the health needs of Qatar and the region.

As indicated, WCM-Q graduates constitute an essential part of the medical body. In that sense, he affirmed that the center considers its former an extension of their institutional , and highlighted the of the Office of Affairs of Forces students, responsible for providing them with support through professional guidance, training opportunities, access to research and teaching, and strengthening the feeling of belonging to the academic community.

Likewise, the office has contributed to the to Qatar of numerous graduates after completing medical residence programs in the United States, many of which currently provide their services in reference institutions such as Hamad Medical Corporation, Cidra Medicine and As pepent, thus strengthening a sustainable talent base for the country’s health system.

Dr. Sheikh also praised the fruitful collaboration of the Faculty with national institutions such as the Ministry of Public Health, Hamad Medical Corporation, the Primary Health Care Corporation and various private hospital centers, which open promising professional perspectives to graduates and encourage them to consolidate their career within the Qatari health ecosystem.

To the new graduates, the Dean urged them to maintain the resilience, to conserve the link with the faculty and their graduates, and to take advantage of the available support network. Likewise, he advised to adhere firmly to the ethical principles of medicine, prioritize the well -being of patients and take care of their own physical and mental health in the face of the demands inherent in professional practice.

Regarding the most demanded specialties, he indicated that, although most graduates their career with clinical training, numerous combine this with research, teaching or health management. Specialties that have aroused greater interest in recent years include internal medicine, neurology, pediatrics, psychiatry, emergency medicine, cardiology, ophthalmology and orthopedic surgery.

In the field of research, Dr. Sheikh highlighted the relevance of the WCM-Q Biomedical Research Program, established in 2009, and currently has 22 active laboratories and 135 researchers. These laboratories, equipped with avant -garde technology, support projects in genomic, proteomic, bioinformatics, medical and bio -statistical image, and encourage collaboration with other centers assigned to the Qatar Foundation.

Although the Faculty does not offer conventional postgraduate programs, it teaches an integrated medical program of six years and a basic program, both aimed at attracting outstanding students from Qatar and abroad. WCM-Q annually receives more than 1000 applications and admits between 40 and 50 students in the integrated program, and between 3 and 5 in the four-year program aimed at those who have already completed previous studies in medicine.

The Dean also insisted on the permanent efforts of the faculty to update their curricula according to in medical technology, precision medicine and artificial intelligence, through initiatives such as the “Innovation and Education in Precision Health” platform, conceived to integrate new technological tools in training and medical assistance, without losing sight of the fundamental ethical principles.

To conclude, Dr. Sheikh expressed his optimism regarding the future of higher education in Qatar and ratified WCM-Q’s commitment to the formation of a new generation of health leaders who combine scientific excellence with a deep humanistic vocation.
