The Brazilian police said Sunday that he frustrated an attack with a bomb planned against the historic concert of Lady Gaga that attracted more than 2 million people to Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday.
The Civil Police of the state of Rio de Janeiro, who worked in coordination with the Ministry of Justice, said that the plot was orchestrated by a group that promoted hate speeches and the radicalization of adolescents, including self -injuries and violent content as a form of social belonging.
According to the Mayor’s Office, 2.1 million people attended the American Pop icon concert.
“The suspects were recruiting participants, including minors, to carry out coordinated attacks using improvised explosives and Molotov cocktails,” police said in a statement.
The Ministry of Justice said the recruiters identified themselves as members of the Gaga Global Base, known as the “Little Monsters.”
The operation was based on a report from the Cyber Operations Laboratory of the Ministry after a track of the police intelligence of the State of Rio, which discovered digital cells that fostered violent behavior between adolescents using coded language and extremist symbolism.
A man described as the group leader was arrested in the southern state of Rio Grande do Sul for illegal possession of a firearm, while a teenager in Rio de Janeiro was arrested for storing child pornography.
The authorities carried out more than a dozen registration orders and confiscation in the states of Rio de Janeiro, Mato Grosso, Rio Grande do Sul and Sao Paulo.
