Ovidio Guzman Lopez, alias The mousehas reached an agreement with the United States Department of Justice on Tuesday, to declare himself guilty for drug trafficking in exchange for delivering information to the authorities, as reported by the Court of Northern Chicago. Joaquin’s son El Chapo Guzmán, extradited from Mexico in 2023, had a hearing next Monday before Judge Sharon Johnson. The view has been postponed at the news of the agreement and has been set for July 9, when the alleged drug trafficker will declare himself guilty.
The news attaches the cluster of rumors around the little one of the Guzmán brothers, at least those signed in Washington, Ovid himself, Joaquín, Jesús Alfredo and Iván Archivaldo. For months, the court of the Courts in the US was that the mouse would choose to declare himself guilty, seen the amount of accusations that weighed against him, a dozen in total, five in Chicago, six in New York and one in the district of Columbia, most of the drug trafficking, fentanil, cocaine, and methamphetamine.
The question now points to the content of the agreement reached between the mouse and the US authorities. In previous trials against Mexican drug trafficking, case of Chapo, for example, his father, the prosecution used the sayings of his former allies, as the son of his old partner, Vicente Zambada, aka Vicentilloto prop up the accusation. It would not be uncommon for prosecutors now to turn the tortilla and use the bliss of the mouse, against Vicentillo’s father, Ismael May Zambada, in custody of the authorities of that country since July.
The fall in disgrace of the Guzmán family accelerates. The murder in 2008 of one of the older children of the Chapo, Edgar, seemed just a backward business, the payment of a painful criminal toll. But the subsequent arrests of the patriarch, especially the second, after his last escape, inaugurated a growing decline. Without El Chapo on stage, their children, the Chapitos, fought against their old partners. First was Dámaso López and his faction, disjointed quickly in the late last decade. Now, the battle is against the children and henchmen of Zambada, a war that does not conclude. In between, the brothers have been falling.
First it was the mouse, which fell in January 2023 in the union of Jesús María, north of Culiacán, the capital of Sinaloa, where he had his house. The authorities were in the sights after the failed capture attempt of October 2019, the famous culiacanazo. Then, elite military tried to capture it and take it from the city center, but the brutal reaction of their group, which site the city, forced the government to release it. Three years and a few months later, the military succeeded and found Ovid’s bones in prison. In September, the Government extradited it to the US.
Then it was Joaquín, alleged author of one of the criminal betrayals of the century. In July 2024, the son of the Chapo cheated his godfather and old partner of his father, May Zambada, to go to a Board in Culiacán. The meeting as such was an excuse to kidnap the veteran hood of the Sinaloa cartel, put it in a plane and take it to the US. The delivery of Zambada to the authorities of that country should place Joaquin in good position and help Ovid in the process, details that are unknown at the moment.
Thus, the Chapitos, diminished by the war against their old allies, beaten by the dozens of arrests that have suffered these months, have been reduced to the leadership of Iván Archivaldo and Jesús Alfredo. It is not clear what role they play in the war other ancient leaders of the poster, case of Aureliano The Guano Guzmán, his uncle, or the boss of the northern zone of Sinaloa, Fausto El Chapo Isidro. The panorama paints complicated for the Guzmán, waiting for new revelations in pending processes north of the Bravo River.
