Mexico is the second country with greater income from Medical Tourismby capturing more than 2,500 million dollars (MDD) per yearmainly in Baja California, highlighted the president of Baja Health Cluster, Fabián Walters Arballo.
This sector grows because of its colliding that has with cities in the United States, a phenomenon that is repeated throughout the history, as happened in the time of the great depression and the restrictions in the United States in the depose of the 2os and 30s of the last century, the interviewee explained.
According to the Mexican Association of Health Tourism, this segment is divided into 3 large groups: Medical Tourism, Wellness Tourism and Tourism of Alternative and Complementary Medicine (MAC).
The states that have the greatest attraction in this area are: Baja California, Baja California Sur, Chihuahua, Guanajuato, Jalisco, Nuevo León, Querétaro, Quintana Roo, Sonora, Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Yucatán, Mexico City, mainly.
“Health has become inaccessible to those people who do not have medical coverage in the United States or some medical procedures are not available to those who have medical insurance such as surgery against obesity or bariatric, assisted reproduction, plastic surgery or dental services are very expensive, those that are stuck to the border with specialists have generated an opportunity.”

It is estimated that around 40 to 60 percent of tourists who require medical services are of American nationality, since in Mexico certified treatment and high quality professionals achieve savings of 40 to 60 percent of what they would pay in their country, according to Global Intelligence Health.
“Mexico is the second country receiving patients for medical tourism in the world, after Thailand. And Baja California, especially Tijuana are the main receptors with 3 million visitors, of which 60 to 70 percent come to Tijuana and from these 3 million visitors a 40 percent come for health tourism with an economic spill of 2,500 million dollars.”
