Directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla, Rogue One), “Jurassic World: The Renacer” will introduce a darker and fantastic approach to the Jurassic Park universe, with mutant dinosaurs that take the franchise to a land closer to terror.
The D-Rex, described by Edwards as “A kind of T-Rex designed by HR Giger who then had an encounter with a Star Wars Rancor”it is a genetic abomination with multiple arms, huge teeth and an aspect that combines the grotesque with the tragic.
David Vickery, from Industrial Light & Magic, adds that the D-Rex design evokes compassion in addition to fear, as if “another animal had been involved around a T-Rex.”
Unlike previous hybrids such as Indominus Rex or Indoraptor, created for commercial or warlike purposes, The Distortus Rex seems to be a pure error, a failed experiment of the first days of engine that should never have existed. Its name, which evokes distortion and rupture of nature, suggests a disturbing origin, possibly linked to the initial attempts to recreate a T-Rex.
