In a conversation with Screen Rant, screenwriter Eric Pearson revealed that the original plan was to place John Walker/U.S. Agentplayed by Wyatt Russell, like a “time pump”Created from the consequences of its history in the Falcon and the Winter Soldier series.

From there, Pearson stated that in 2010 he made a program of writers with Marvel and that context could read the story of The Sentry, subsequently reaching the idea of reinventing its origin to address “a theme of heroic ambition and self -esteem against self -prosecution, depression and loneliness”, which was perfectly traced with the idea of the Thunderbolts.
In addition, he made it clear that the idea of the comics of placing The Sentry as a hero of the golden age that erased everyone’s memory to forget it was something fun, but could not be well transferred to the movies.
