The Turkmenistan Elite national Championships was held in their capital city in Ashgabat to select the best of the bests in the boxing country.
Altogether 71 elite male boxers competed in the Elite National Championships in Ashgabat, mostly young U22 talents.
Their former national team boxer and the 3-star Referee & Judge Mr. Ishanguly Meretnyyazov was one of the key officials in the Turkmenistan National Championships who worked also in several ASBC Championships during his career.
The Secretary General of the Turkmenistan Boxing Federation, Mr. Durdymammet Kuljayev arranged the organizational matters of the National Championships which was the first elite competition for them in 2025.
Boxers from all regions of Turkmenistan such as Ahal, Balkan, Dashoguz, Lebap and Mary participated in the National Championships in Ashgabat.
Boxers who were born between 1985 and 2006 were eligible to participate in the Turkmenistan Elite National Championships in Ashgabat.
Ashgabat’s Amangeldi Gurbanbayev was the first winner in the National Championships, he defeated his teammate, Nurmyrat Saparov for the title.
Daniyar Rozmetov began his career with a medal at the 2019 ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships in Kuwait City and he is now one of their talented elite boxers. The 19-year-old Ashgabat-based boxer was too smart for Balkan region’s Medet Guljayev in the second final of the Nationals.
The lightweight was a very busy category with the participation of 12 boxers and among them two pugilists from Ashgabat joined the finals. The ASBC Asian Elite competitor Dovlet Muhanov was slightly better than Alisher Orazbayev, a silver medallist from the 2019 ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships.
Following Ihlasbek Kochkarov’s unexpected success, Turkmenistan’s No.1, Bayramdurdy Nurmuhammedov won his weight class. He earned a bronze medal at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou and he defeated all of his four rivals including Azizbek Matyakubov, another Ashgabat-based boxer.
Ashgabat’s Youth World Championships competitor, the 19-year-old Abdyrahman Yklymov defeated three good opponents, Ruslan Martirosyan, Mekan Mammedov and Ybrayym Hallyyev as well to take the title of the light heavyweight.
The veteran Arslanbek Achilov of Lebap region and another ASBC Championships competitor, Baky Toychyyev were the main favourites of the super heavyweight but Ashgabat’s Dovlet Islamov earned the title in that category.
