MINNEAPOLIS

The Minneapolis police chief Brian O’Hara announced an important in the mass shooting that occurred in the 1500 of 25 Street earlier this week. A suspect was and, tragically, a fourth victim died because of his wounds.

The arrest marks a critical step in the investigation, which has been promoted by the urgent and coordinated efforts of the Minneapolis Police Department and its local, and federal partners, including the US Sheriff Service. UU., The FBI and the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office.

At approximately 3:30 pm today, the North Star Fugitives Working Group of the US Sheriffs, with the assistance of the FBI SWAT team, executed an arrest warrant in the 1600 South 4th Street. James Duane Ortley, 34, was arrested without incident and admitted to Hennepin County prison for homicide with probable cause.

“This is a significant advance in what has been an intense and agile investigation into the most violent incident of the year,” said Chief O’Hara. “I am deeply grateful to all our police allies who responded urgently and continue to with us to hold others for the serious crimes that our community has suffered.”

Shortly after the arrest, the department was notified of the death in the hospital of a fourth victim, a 28 -year -old man. The victim had been hospitalized since the April 29 shooting in which two men and a woman died. The Hennepin County Forensic Physician will reveal the identity of the 28 -year -old man, as well as the cause and form of his death.

“This is a bittersweet ,” added Chief O’Hara. “While this arrest represents a significant advance towards , this is eclipsed by the heartbreaking loss of another life. We accompany in the feeling the families of the victims, to their loved ones and a community that continues in mourning.”

Mayor Jacob Frey also offered his and gratitude. “My deepest condolences to the victim’s and friends we lost today,” said Mayor Frey. “These days have been devastating for our city. I appreciate that an arrest has been made in this act of meaningless and appreciation of the tireless work of our companions of the forces of the order and of the members of the community who helped us to get here.”

The Minneapolis Police Department (MPD) continues to request public information about this fatal shooting and two additional homicides that occurred on April 30. Anyone who has information is urged, however small, to the present.
