The real effects of mobile use and other screens are still unknown. And a new study proposes a solution to do so: use the scales of the consumption of alcoholic beverages to discover if there is an addiction to the use of phones, tablets and consoles.
As? The researchers propose to measure consumption time and not the content, since “displaces the time spent in the real world.”
And they have adapted a table that measures use and addition:
- Moderate (less than 5 hours a day).
- High intensity (12 hours in one day).
- Excessive (9 hours or more a day or 60 hours per week).
- Consumption in binge (more than 4 hours in a row).
- Improper (in addition to many hours would include content or moments of the day inappropriate).
- And use disorder (inability to stop).
But the debate is served. There are experts who see this resource to alcohol as simplistic or risky and ask to look more towards the contents.
- They claim that while alcohol is harmful, time on the Internet has many more nuances and is not the only criterion to diagnose an addition.
