Notable advance of the reform works of the municipal shelter for homeless people in Cádiz

The mayor of Cádiz, Bruno García, has visited the works of reform of the municipal shelter for home, located in the Macías Rete Square, and has reported that they already at 60% of its execution.

“The reform of the municipal shelter was one of the main objectives of our team, with which we will improve and modernize facilities that must be up to the dignity of the people to whom it is served,” said the mayor.

The City Council is developing with its own funds this action with a budget of 400,000 euros (with VAT included), which includes the provision of adequate ventilation in the center, the of the entire exterior carpentry to avoid the entry of cold, the installation of solar panels for hot water to improve energy efficiency and a new coating of the facade. Likewise, a new electrical installation, plumbing and sanitation, to the modification of the inner carpentry is also being more resistant to moisture and the improvement of bathrooms, kitchen and bedrooms.

“This reform was an urgent need, since the shelter presented unfortunate conditions after recent years without interventions that maintained the quality of the service,” he said.

For the mayor, “it is not just about renewing a building, but about transforming a homeless care system, enabling more resources and better services, to which new projects responds such as the implementation of the center of the Setenile street of the wineries assigned by Procasa and the construction of the new center of Solitude Street that is being built on municipal land with a subsidy approved by the Junta de Andalucía.”

Likewise, the mayor has pointed out that thanks to these initiatives, together with the in alternative accommodation by 60% compared to 2022, the city of Cádiz will have more than 80 worthy places for homeless, compared to the 20 that existed a few years ago.
