SSV Jahn Regensburg will be playing again in the 3rd division in the coming season. The descent of the Upper Palatinate is found two game days before the end of the season. Thanks to the 1: 1 at 1. FC Köln, the relegation place for the team of coach Andreas Patz is no longer available. After just one season, the Jahn has to go down again.

So the Regensburgers can be found in the “elevator”. Down, up, down. After a year in third parties, a year ago, the relegation had been achieved direct return to the 2nd Bundesliga. But this step was too ambitious: the Jahn took 18th place in the table and was rarely able to demonstrate its second division suitability.
Success in the DFB Cup does not bring a tailwind for the league
The start of the season was already a bumpy: on matchday 2, a 1-0 win against co-promoted SSV 1846 Ulm. After that, however, it took until the 11th matchday before a threesome could be retracted. The fact that you only got on against Bundesliga club VfL Bochum in the DFB Cup and in the 2nd main round against SpVgg Greuther Fürth also caused a few nice moments. The team could not really take the momentum into the league. In this competition against runner -up VfB Stuttgart (0: 3), the round of 16 ended.
Change of coaches and winter transfers also do not turn a turn
The balance sheet after the first half of the season can already be found like that of a relegation: only three wins and two draws faced twelve defeats. At that time, promotion coach Joe Enochs had already been released. After a 3: 8 clap at the 1st FC Nürnberg, the American was unscrewed on the 11th matchday and replaced by the inexperienced Andreas Patz.
During the winter break, those responsible for sports managers Achim Beierlorzer reacted and committed four newcomers to tear around: returnees Sargis Adamyan (1. FC Köln/Leiten) were just as much a part of this as Tim Handwerker (1. FC Nürnberg), Anssi Suhonen (Hamburger SV/Leit) and Frederic Ananou (VV St. Truid). But the success failed to materialize. SSV Jahn is also currently taking the last place in the table in the second round table.
Horror away balance sheet with hearty clapping
The hope that the team could now win more games and leave at least two teams behind was not fulfilled. In particular, the away appearances (only two points and 8:49 goals from 16 games) were sometimes disastrous. 3: 8 in Nuremberg, 0: 5 in Hamburg, 1: 5 in Ulm or 0: 6 in Elversberg – it didn’t just hurt once.
The squad did not meet the second division claims. Only midfielder Sebastian Ernst and attacker Kai Pröger were able to convince from the summer newcomers. Overall, however, neither Joe Enochs nor Andreas Patz managed to give the team the necessary stability. Above all, the defensive (66 goals) was by far the weakest in the 2nd Bundesliga.
New beginning and personnel upheaval?
Now there should be a fresh start in the 3rd league. It will also depend on whether the immediate reappearance will work again whether Beierlorzer succeeds in getting a personnel upheaval. It is quite possible that the fans have to mourn the days when SSV Jahn was a second division team for seven years.
