Russell said that the role of GPDA has become more and more political, when at first he focused more on security issues.
“I think the last 18 months have been an unprecedented time, with all the changes and everything that is happening,” Russell said. “I think that when the GPDA was founded years ago, it was not really to talk about politics, but to talk about security, improvements in sports, improvements in careers.
“And, especially, I am talking about issues that I really had no intention of speaking, but we are at a time when we are not focused on the things we are here. We are here to run, to offer the best show to the fans, to have the fastest cars, the safest, the best technology, the best engineering, and yet we talk about fines, penalties and insults,” said Russell
“So yes, maybe something should change. We are open to it, but ultimately we only want the best for sport.”
Russell said the pilots now want to see measures from the FIA instead of statements in social networks.
“Obviously, we want these things to be put into practice, instead of saying ‘we are considering things’,” said Russell. “We all consider many things. We are clear that we want changes and, once they are implemented, we will discuss them. But, for the moment, they are being considered, so the words mean nothing until the change has been made.
“Collectively, we have not said anything else since the open letter was sent. So I am not sure if that [publicación] It is the answer.
